Karen Margaryan
Karen Margaryan was born on June 10, 1978 in Armenia. At the young age of seven, he discovered his love for music. At first, he started to play violin, however, very soon, he became fascinated by piano.Today, Karen Margaryan is one of the most acclaimed composers and arrangers of the Armenian music showbiz. Since 1994 he produced, and composed for top American and Armenian stars, such as Brian McKnight, Elvina Makarian, Nune, Jivan Gasparyan, Shushan Petrosyan, and many more. In 2001, Karen received the highest award "The Arranger of the Year". 1.) How did you first hear about Open Labs?
I often check out new gear at the Guitar Center and that's where I first heard about Open Labs.
2.) What Production Station do you have?
I have Open Labs GEN3 XL NEKO.
3.) How has the gear changed your method of work?
It completely changed my way of working - all I need is inside one station and it is mobile. I even take it to other countries for studio work.
4.) What is your production station's primary function, live or studio?
Studio is a primary function.
5.) What is your favorite software on the board?
Mr. Ray, True Piano are amazing plug-ins.
6.) How do you use it?
I often use them in my arrangements for true and real feel of the instruments.
7.) Which kind of equipment have you owned in the past and how do they compare to your Open Labs equipment?
I can't even compare Open Labs to my past equipment (PC computer with midi controller, and external sound card). It is so much more superior to any of previous gear.
8.) Has the gear changed the way you write songs?
As a composer I look for inspiration every day, it's so much easier for me to get inspired by nature... I pick up my Open Labs and head to the place with the ocean view.
9.) How different is the composition process compared to the standard computer or laptop system?
Because Open Labs is so user-friendly, you don't lose you focus from the composition process, there are no issues to resolve due to a computer freeze or poor synchronizing.
10.) Do you think the quality of your production now would be possible with another keyboard?
I don't think I will have such a smooth and superior production experience with any other keyboard. I highly recommend this keyboard to my musician-friends.
11.) Have you had any experience with our Tech Support and how does it rate with you?
The Tech Support is highly trained and customer-oriented. Its knowledgeable staff is extremely friendly and always happy to help.
12.) What is next for you and your Production Station?
I am producing my artists and finishing my second World Music CD album utilizing Open Labs exclusively. I am planning to upgrade to a new version GEN5 for even better production.
