Mosik
This Bronx, New York native has come a long way, having been influenced by Lauryn Hill, Nas, Jay-Z, Kanye West and Kirk Franklin, to name a few. From the first in his family to graduate high school, then go on to college and graduate with a 4 year degree, Mosik has since been pursuing his passion in music.
Mosik, up and coming Indie rapper/songwriter/producer, purchased a Timbaland Miko and can't get enough of the machine alone. "I love producers like DJ Premier, Kanye West, Dr. Dre, Timbaland, RZA, and the list goes on, but to have a unit like the Miko, alone, to create anything imaginable, makes me feel like I can be like all those producers in one and add still be able to add my own twist. Basically, there are no limits."
Mosik has had the opportunity to perform for MBK Entertainment (Alicia Key's company). Jeff Robinson, Manager of Alicia Keys, stated to Mosik, "You're a really good rapper, lyrically intelligent; got me thinking and really enjoyed listening to you...I hope to hear more from you."
Now you can find Mosik's first single "Close Friends" produced with the Timbaland Miko on iTunes, Napster, Limewire and Rhapsody. Following that, in February 2010, "Facebook/Twitter" will be released, also produced with the Timbaland Miko."
Artist Q&A:
1.)How did you first hear about Open Labs?
I heard about Open Labs from a conversation with a family member, who asked me if I heard of it and I didn't. He then told me maybe I should check it out and think of getting it rather than several keyboards or workstations. I did and the rest is history.
2.)What Production Station do you have?
I currently have Pro Tools LE and I also use a MPC2500 along side the Miko.
3.)How has the gear changed your method of work?
It has opened up a whole new world of creativity for me.
4.)What is your production station's primary function, live or studio?
Right now, the Miko is being used for studio purposes. I do intend to use it live when I can.
5.)What is your favorite software on the board?
This is not a fair question because all the software is HOT! But if I have to choose it would be Reaper. I use it for editing, sequence, you name it.
6.)How do you use it?
I use it for everything, from track development, editing, to recording.
7.)Which kind of equipment have you owned in the past and how do they compare to your Open Labs equipment?
I use to own a keyboard that had about 600 sounds. That's not too much to choose from and with the Miko there is no comparison. The sounds are endless and to add more sounds is endless.
8.)Has the gear changed the way you write songs?
There was a time when I would write the song first and had to wait on the track. However, now, I can have the track already produced and write rap lyrics and songs as I go. But the inspiration to write is always there, I think the Miko has really helped me release it.
9.)How different is the composition process compared to the standard computer or laptop system?
The hands on experience you get with any Open Labs machine are priceless, hands down. I get the computer world and hardware world with the Miko. It's the best of both worlds.
10.)Do you think the quality of your production now would be possible with another keyboard?
I can't imagine the quality of my production with another keyboard. What I know for sure is that Miko is the quality I seek to make great music.
11.)Have you had any experience with our Tech Support and how does it rate with you?
I have not had to use the Tech Support yet. But I do intend to because I don't think I have discovered the full potential of the Miko.
12.)What is next for you and your Production Station?
To go as far as we can go in music from producing hits, Grammys and open up my very own Academy and incorporate Open Labs Neko and Miko into the curriculum. Basically, there are no limits.
