Sergio Ramos

From an early age, Sergio Ramos' life was affected by music in ways many could not comprehend. Sitting down and tinkering on the family piano (even though he was told not to play with it), Sergio found comfort in the complex musical stylings he picked up by ear at the early age of 4. As time went on, this love of music only grew stronger. Soon, Sergio branched out to more instruments, searching for even more creative ways to express the ideas he had inside himself. The trumpet came next, followed closely by the guitar. As well as his ability to be well versed on numerous instruments, Sergio was also heard singing with such melodic and lyrical fortitude that displayed emotions in ways he could not achieve with instruments alone.

Fast forward to present time: Sergio Ramos is a Producer/Songwriter/Artist, whose love for music transcends all boundaries and genres. Always pushing boundaries, Sergio's musical stylings have lent themselves to a vast array of unique and diverse projects. Mixing all genres of music, from Jazz to Hip Hop, Rock and Pop, and spanning the globe, his productions find a way to bridge various styles while continuing to remain familiar to all who listen to his productions.

Currently, he is working with the LA Reid Publishing/EMI production team known as A-Rex Productions out of Atlanta, Georgia. There, he has been able to showcase himself on various productions for a multitude of artists, including Tiffany Evans and Karina Pasian. Sergio is also working with Platinum Recording Artist Frankie J. Galasso on his debut solo album, as well as writing for up-and-coming artist Lilibeth Perez, and soul artist Dwayne. Artist Q&A:

1.)    How did you first hear about Open Labs?

I first heard about Open Labs and the Miko specifically while flipping through a music magazine a few years back. After reading what Open Labs was doing, I knew one day I would have to get my hands on one of their products!

2.)    What Production Station do you have?

Currently I am working with a Miko TIM Edition.

3.)    How has the gear changed your method of work?

The Miko has elevated both my production/recording and songwriting to a whole new level. The ease of use, endless amounts of VST’s and software that came bundled with it, plus the room for future expandability ensures that you can stay ahead of others throughout the entire production process.

4.)    What is your production station's primary function, live or studio?

Currently, the main function of my Miko is in the studio setting for my production and recording needs, but live use is foreseeable in the future.

5.)    What is your favorite software on the board?

Reaper truly allows me to create music with as little headaches as possible, but if I were to pick ONE thing that I always can count on is my Sylenth VSTi. It is quite addicting. Some of the sounds and the way I can manipulate them keeps me coming back time and time again. I have also loaded in numerous other VSTi’s including Omnisphere and Symphobia, which both run flawlessly on the Miko TIM.

6.)    How do you use it?

I use my VSTi’s in almost all of my production/recording needs, as well as the Waves Plugins I loaded into the board.  My Miko allows me to do so much in such little time. My productions have taken on a life of their own.

7.)    Which kind of equipment have you owned in the past and how do they compare to your Open Labs equipment?

Prior to my Miko, I owned various Keyboards (Roland), Pro Tools 002 Setup, as well as my Mac laptop. The Miko has gone and streamlined my rig into one whole unit I can take with me anywhere and create music in any scenario! It’s a godsend.

8.)    Has the gear changed the way you write songs?

Absolutely. The freedom it gives me allows me to do so much. I love that I can create a track, record vocals and other instruments direct using the Firebox, all the while from one unit.

9.)    How different is the composition process compared to the standard computer or laptop system?

Parallels can be drawn but the ease of use and the fact that setup time for a production is cut dramatically, all it takes to get going is flipping on the Miko and you’re ready to go.

10.)    Do you think the quality of your production now would be possible with another keyboard?

Absolutely not. Open Labs is light years ahead of what most keyboard companies are providing for their users. The fact that the Miko is so upgradeable will keep them ahead for many years to come!

11.)    Have you had any experience with our Tech Support and how does it rate with you?

I haven’t yet but from other Miko users, I have heard that Tech Supports is absolutely wonderful and helpful in every scenario.

12.)    What is next for you and your Production Station?

Currently, I am working with the LA Reid Publishing/EMI production team known as A-Rex Productions out of Atlanta, Georgia. These guys are the real deal, and I have been helping them out with some production work recently for a multitude of artists. I am also working on music for Platinum Recording Artist Frankie J. Galasso on his upcoming solo album. All in all, I’ll be pretty busy throughout the rest of 2009, and my Miko will always be around for the ride.
