Smitty

David Smith, also known as Smitty, was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas. Throughout his youth, he always had an attraction to a variety of music, but was particularly inclined to the rhythm of hip-hop. As a teenager, he began to create music as a stress reliever, but more so, as a way to express his creativity in the hip-hop world. People around him began to listen and see something grow until one day a family member suggested marketing his musical talents and originality to the public. Piece by piece, he has built his studio (which now includes the Neko XXL) and list of contacts to land himself with features such as Killa Kyleon, Lil C,

Smoke Black, and production work on DJ Smallz & Smoke: One Day At A Time.
He is steadily climbing the ranks and continually adding to his credits. With determination, focus, and an unstoppable drive for success he is planning to leave his mark, not only in the hip-hop realm, but in the entertainment industry as a whole.

Artist Q&A:

1.) How did you first hear about Open Labs?
I first heard about open labs back in 2004 from a buddy of mine telling me this was going to be the future (no lie).

2.) What Production Station do you have?
     I own the Neko XXL.

3.) How has the gear changed your method of work?
The Neko XXL has dramatically changed the way I work for the better! Not only is everything located within arm's reach but when it comes to traveling you can't beat needing to only make room for the key board some speakers and some cords!!!

4.) What is your production station's primary function, live or studio?
I primarily use it for studio production but plan on using it real soon for some live performance.

5.) What is your favorite software on the board?
     I really like Ableton live.

6.) How do you use it?
Using it to create some remixes and is currently working on some live performance pieces.

7.) Which kind of equipment have you owned in the past and how do they compare to your Open Labs equipment?
I've worked with the Fantom, Triton, and multiple M-audio boards but like I said before you can't beat have the all in one package.

8.) Has the gear changed the way you write songs?
My process is pretty much the same but I do mix it up here and there to see what this board can really do.

9.) How different is the composition process compared to the standard computer or laptop system?
It's pretty much the same just a lot faster and more memory.

10.) Do you think the quality of your production now would be possible with another keyboard?
I think it is but it wouldn't be as convenient.

11.) Have you had any experience with our Tech Support and how does it rate with you?
Tech support has been really good I give 5 stars.

12.) What is next for you and your Production Station?
I plan on taking the Neko XXL with me every step of the way to the top along with anything else open labs has to offer. I plan on grabbing the DBeat next!
