Alan Chambers
Twenty-five year-old Alan Chambers from Miami is a saxophonist turned producer with a degree in audio engineering. He has been a part of numerous jazz bands and orchestras, which is why a majority of his music has that movie score feel to it. He never had a rapper or singer around, so he wanted to make sure his music stood on its own.
"And that’s just what I make, MUSIC, not beats. I love movies, so from time to time you’ll hear some sound byte from a movie I thought was cool. I feel each song an artist makes should be like a movie. It should captivate his audience with every verse. I think my music makes that job a little easier for them," Alan said.
"I recently finished scoring and editing a documentary out here in Delaware that was accepted into a few film festivals around the country. We were using G4’s and G5’s and were constantly running into problems. Having a turn-key system like the NeKo would have saved us a lot of headaches."
"I’m heavily influenced by Timbaland. I’ve been listening to his music since the early 90’s and it still amazes me today. I know my style of music goes against the mainstream grain and most won’t fully appreciate what I’m trying to do, but the same happened to Timbaland and I just hope I can one day have a fraction of his success."
Artist Q & A
Q: Which kind of keyboard have you owned in the past and how do they compare to your Neko?
A: I've used Tritons and Kurzweils, but they're just sounds (really good sounds). The NeKo is a true Workstation. The possibilities are endless with this thing.
Q: What is your Neko's primary function?
A: Composition/Production. I might even give video editing a try. It is just such a superior machine.
Q: What is your favorite software on the Neko? How do you use it?
A: I'm in love with all the instruments that came with the NeKo - right out of the box. I've been using Xpand!, WusikStation, and TruePianos a lot.
Q: How different has the composition process been compared to the standard computer set-up?
A: Being able to load any instrument at any time, when and where I need them is absolutely amazing. The first test I just had to try when I first got it, was how many EastWest plugins can I load. I think I loaded about three or four orchestras at only a 30% cpu load. I was scared to try any more.
Q: Have you had any experience with our Tech Support?
A: Actually, I haven't had a reason to call yet. Oddly enough, everything is working the way it's supposed to … go figure.
Q: What is next for you and your Neko?
A: Music, music and more music.
