Pree Release: Unsigned Artist Wins $24,000 24 Karat Gold Keyboard

Unsigned Artist Wins $24,000 24 Karat Gold Keyboard

Austin, TX — Now that the event has ended, Open Labs has calculated the Beats ‘N Treats Music Festival to be a successful business venture. The two-day festival at the Mohawk in Austin, Texas from Oct. 24 through Oct. 25 featured the Gold Rush beat competition with the grand prize a 24 karat gold NeKo LUX. After six rounds of one-on-one competitions, each contestant played their beat through an Open Labs MiKo until the final contestants played early Sunday morning. The grand prize winner was Austin resident JJ Robinson, also known as “Y2JJ” of Philiez Beats. Y2JJ prevailed against Russell Lee for his sixth beat of the event, and was awarded the gold Open Labs instrument worth over $24,000 and personally owned by Open Labs co-founder and chairman, Victor Wong.

“I’m very pleased with how the entire event turned out,” said Victor Wong. “We had some incredible producers travel from all over the country to participate in this event. New York, L.A., Washington, you name it, they came down for a chance to win my NeKo LUX. These musicians’ material was completely professional, and just as good as anything you hear on the top ten charts today.”

Open Labs CEO, Hank Coleman, concurred. “We put a lot of time and energy into the Beats ‘N Treats Festival, and it was by all means worth it,” said Coleman. “Most music festivals have a hard time getting off the ground on their first year, but this one exceeded our expectations.”

Y2JJ was in awe about winning the NeKo LUX. “I’m kind of speechless,” said Y2JJ. “It’s a blessing, It was almost like destiny to get this. After the first round I was confident, but after hearing the other contestants I went back to the drawing board that night, and it turned out for the best. I mainly focused on hip-hop, a lot of guitar, and made sure my bridges were all guitar leads mixed with symphonies. I wanted to make sure I kept that live feel, and then bring it back into hip-hop based on the crowd’s reaction. I’ve taken off the next week of work to spend some time with my new NeKo LUX.”

After the contest ended, Victor Wong decided to donate a Timbaland Special Edition MiKo to the second place contestant Russell Lee, for displaying a fierce competition, and providing professional music.

“Although Y2JJ won a fair battle, we couldn’t just let Russell Lee go home empty handed,” said Wong. “He worked really hard, displayed some incredible talent, and had a great reaction from the crowd.”

The entire event was broadcast live on the Internet by multiple HD cameras. The broadcast featured live bands on the inside stage for both days, and the outside stage featured performances by Mickael, Bavu Blakes, Mike and Ike, Union Cartel, Komodo, Perfect Strangers, and Pointbender. With a noise meter displayed on a projector screen on the back of the stage, each contestant was judged by the crowd’s reaction. For both nights, several hundred attendants filled the Mohawk’s multi-level layout, which also included an Open Labs demo booth and an Art Institute of Austin booth on the rooftop. Sponsors for the event included the Art Institute of Austin, The Austin Chronicle, Austin.com, Do512.com, Hot 93.3, Independence Brewery, Hey Cupcake!, 5th Street Studios, Treaty Oak Rum, Sample My Melodyz, The Onion Pizzeria, Pita Pit, and Vitae Med Spa.

The two day event will feature live bands and a beat competition called the “Gold Rush Beat Competition,” in which the winner will receive an Open Labs NeKo LUX encased in a 24-karat gold chassis. The instrument is worth over $24,000, and is Open Labs’ most expensive instrument to date. The competition will be held on the outside stage of the Mohawk for both days, with running times of 5 pm to 2 am on Friday, and 2 pm to 2 am on Saturday. Local Austin Dru Fay will be the master of ceremonies. The inside stage will feature live bands and DJs throughout the event.

The entire event will be filmed with multiple hi-definition cameras, and broadcast live from www.openlabs.com. Open Labs is currently marketing and advertising worldwide for the Beats ‘N Treats Music Festival, and over 2,000 attendees are expected, not including on-line viewers.

The gold NeKo is personally owned by Open Labs co-founder and chairman, Victor Wong, and only 24 of the gold NeKo’s will ever be made by Open Labs. Wong claims that he is giving away his personal gold NeKo as a token of appreciation to the musician community for Open Labs’ success, and as a celebration for Open Labs’ five year anniversary.

“We know that there is a huge urban music scene here in Austin, and we’d like to give it some more recognition, as well as help foster its growth,” said Wong. “Everyone at Open Labs is very pleased with the amount of success our company has received in the last five years, this is our way of giving back to the community, who have been the fuel to Open Labs’ fire.”

The Beats ‘N Treats Music Festival will have two stages during both days: an outside stage to host the beat competition, and an inside stage that will feature live music. The band list for the inside stage tentatively includes a very diverse mix: Recorder, Mickael, DJ Veedub, Rattletree Marimba, CTRL, Bavu Blakes, Fiction, The Beautiful Supermachines, CockVanDyke, Ginsu Wives, Aciable, Androids of Ex-Lovers, Salero, Shriner Threat, El Paso Heist, Hot Pentacostals, Blackolicus, Salesman, Lovebones, Perfect Strangers, Epicene and more. The rooftop of the Mohawk will feature product demonstrations of Open Labs gear, Q&A’s with certified Open Labs employees, artist demonstrations, and the gold NeKo itself will be on display.

“We’ve also had a lot of public interest in the gold NeKo since we’ve had it on our website and Youtube videos,” said Wong. “I know there are some stellar beat makers out there who deserve this machine, but can’t afford it. Now is their chance to own a 24-karat gold NeKo, our best and most expensive machine, using nothing but their talent.”

Press Release: Recorder Wins Famecast NeKo Contest

Austin, TX – Super producer duo The Heavy Weights have selected Recorder as the winner of the Famecast contest to win a NeKo keyboard production station, valued at $6,000 and courtesy of Open Labs. Here’s what The Heavy Weights had to say about their selection:

“Open Labs NeKo and MiKo Workstations have many features that would compliment any artist of any genre, but for the sake of utilizing a Neko to its fullest potential, we have chosen the winner in the Electronic genre, Recorder.

We believe that they would find the NeKo to be an interesting solution to the problems that face musicians in electronic genres. We found their performances to be quite hilarious and entertaining (which is what this is all about enjoying music). Recorder’s production style would be complemented greatly with an Open Labs NeKo.

We would also like to say congratulations to the winners of all of the other genres and to encourage all the contestants to keep doing what they love and to keep up the good music. Thank you again to Open Labs for the opportunity to give away such an awesome piece!”

To celebrate the debut of our Artist Integrated Quartet, ACIDplanet.com® presents Quartet to Quintet: The Ultimate Collaboration. Artist Integration is a new sample library concept rooted in the belief that the best performances are born out of inspiration and collaboration. What better way to spread the word than a contest with a little twist?

We’ve provided you with a 320k MP3 download of “Quartet to Quintet,” a song created using loops from all four Artist Integrated Quartet libraries. It’s got a beginning, an end, and everything in between. What it doesn’t have is you … at least not yet.
